Public Safety 🌟
San José has once again been named the safest big city in America by SmartAsset! This is a recognition that celebrates the strength, care and partnership of our entire community🏡 . This honor reflects not only the outstanding work of the San José Police Department but also the shared commitment of residents, neighbors and city leaders who make safety a priority every day.
Over the past three years, SJPD has achieved a 100% homicide clearance rate, an extraordinary record for a city of nearly one million people and well above the national average🏆. It’s a remarkable example of what’s possible when a community and its police department work hand in hand to keep San José a safe and welcoming place for all.
Food Assistance Resources
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, there have been changes to SNAP benefits. CalFresh has confirmed that existing EBT cards will remain active through November. However, the pause in federal programs will delay distribution of November benefits. At this time, it is unclear how much funding will be provided or when benefits will be added to EBT cards. Once the federal government provides guidance, California will work to issue benefits as quickly as possible.
If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, the following local organizations can help:
